Project Description

A central feature of this residential design project is the prairie-meadow garden area that managed as an open park with a focus on reestablishing natural herb flora, the native herbaceous upland-flatwoods plant communities endemic to the Florida Parishes. This prairie field has spacious mowed turf trails that carry you comfortably as you stroll through the plantings of native grasses and wildflowers. The new landscape adds a year round aesthetic appeal and artistic textural interest while providing for a laundry list of ecological services.  The client has been able to dramatically reduce management time, costs, and their own carbon footprint by reducing the management associated with the property, but at the same time, enjoying it more.

Brookshire Farm Diverse Prairie Project

Artisanal Beef Production Via Diverse Prairie
Location: Meaux, Louisiana

Project Description:

Pastorek Habitats developed a strategy for propagation and installation of nursery and field-grown native prairie grass in a fifty acre field, producing the foundation for a low-input, sustainable forage.

Project Description:

Pastorek Habitats designed strategies for the production of diverse seed mixes to be collected from exemplary botanical representations existing in the Forest. This seed will then be used to establish large-scale plantings in degraded areas of the Forest, enhancing the diversity of the ground layer, with the added benefit of increasing the expansion of populations of the 29 federally listed and threatened wildlife species of the Long Leaf pine ecosystem, including the Red Cockaded Woodpecker.
